The Hobbit in Orange, CA has been recognized as a DiRōNA Awarded restaurant since 1999!
All our guests are invited into our wine cellar to begin the evening. You are handed the evening’s menu and a flute of Hobbit Champagne. Hot and cold hors-d’oeuvres are placed throughout the cellar for you to enjoy while selecting your wine for dinner.
Executive chef/owner Mike Philippi, his wife Debra, are available in the cellar to help select wines — a fun task with over 1000 labels from which to choose.
ACT II Our guests are invited upstairs to their own table
Act II includes a shellfish or fish course, followed by a fowl or light meat and then a salad course. You are then invited to enjoy “intermission” – take a walk, relax on the patios or visit the kitchen to speak with the chefs.
ACT III Return to the table
Ten to fifteen minutes later you are invited to return to your table for Act III. A flavorful sorbet is next as a palate-cleanser. The main entrée is served complete with accompanying vegetables. Dessert arrives next, always available with an after dinner list of coffee drinks, liqueurs, and fine cognacs.
Wednesday through Sunday we begin at 7:00 p.m. Special event dinner times may vary. The Hobbit lounge with a full bar is open one hour prior to each dining time. Our food is referred to as “Contemporary Continental”, a reference to its encompassing many world cuisines.
An evening at The Hobbit is your opportunity to experience the tradition of prix-fixe dining. Part of this evening includes a visit to our wine cellar where we like to offer you a completely tactile experience with our wine list. The list is vast. The list is varied. The list is real. While there is no list in paper and ink, you may visit the virtual list online at our website. Or you could let the anticipation build until you visit the list in person.
Once here in the cellar, dinner menu in one hand and champagne in the other, you are presented with over a thousand bottles from which to choose. Our staff is at your service should the choices overwhelm you. Owner and Executive Chef Michael Philippi is the architect behind the list and has been building the wine collection over three decades.
The Sommelier for The Hobbit offers suggestions for wines paired with the menu as well as wines for your particular tastes or occasions. Our entire service staff holds an enthusiasm for the selection and service of your wines and we look forward to your visit to the cellar.
