Every remarkable dining experience begins with people — the chefs, restaurateurs, and hospitality professionals whose dedication brings artistry, service, and ambiance to life. At DiRōNA, we know the future of dining excellence depends on nurturing the next generation of leaders.
DiRōNA and the NRAEF Partnership
In 1989, DiRōNA established an endowment fund in partnership with the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation (NRAEF) to encourage students to pursue their dreams within the foodservice industry. From that endowment, the DiRōNA Scholarship Program was born — created to inspire and support students as they follow their passion for the culinary arts and hospitality.
Through the NRAEF, DiRōNA scholarships contribute to a larger mission that has awarded more than $26 million in scholarships and grants to over 5,500 students since 1987. The NRAEF’s commitment to fostering talent and ensuring access to education for aspiring foodservice professionals aligns seamlessly with DiRōNA’s vision: preserving and enhancing exceptional dining experiences for generations to come.
This year, we are proud to introduce the 2025 DiRōNA Scholarship recipients — six extraordinary students whose passion and perseverance embody the very essence of what makes dining exceptional. Their stories are not only inspiring for diners, who will one day experience their creativity firsthand, but also for restaurant owners, who recognize the importance of cultivating tomorrow’s leaders.
Meet the 2025 DiRōNA Scholarship Recipients
Avery Mitchell

Jack Herrmann
Freshman at the Culinary Institute of America, majoring in Food Business Management. His goal is to combine culinary skill with leadership as a future restaurateur.
Richard Hodgkiss

So-Ahn Kieffer-Kwon
Sophomore at the Culinary Institute of America, majoring in Food Business Management. Currently completing her externship at Jean-Georges NYC, she dreams of leading her own restaurant.
Every diner who has paused over a beautifully plated dish, lingered over a memorable dessert, or felt the care behind a thoughtful pairing has, in some way, experienced the influence of chefs who once stood where these scholarship recipients stand today.
As students grow into leaders, their creativity and dedication shape the meals and moments that define dining at its best. Each scholarship extends that legacy — ensuring new flavors, fresh perspectives, and unforgettable experiences will continue to grace the table.
For restaurant owners, the path of each scholarship recipient is a glimpse into the industry’s future. Today’s students become tomorrow’s chefs, managers, and leaders, carrying forward the craft and culture that define exceptional dining.
Supporting education not only helps individual students — it strengthens the foundation of hospitality itself. The discipline, creativity, and vision these recipients bring to their studies are the same qualities that will one day enrich kitchens, dining rooms, and guest experiences across North America.
The Broader Impact of DiRōNA Scholarships
Since its founding in 1990, DiRōNA has stood as an authority in recognizing excellence in dining. Our scholarship program extends that recognition beyond the dining room, investing in the people who will shape the future of the industry.
Through the partnership with the NRAEF, DiRōNA scholarships help ensure that talent and passion are met with opportunity. Each recipient represents not only their own ambitions but also the continuation of a tradition that values craftsmanship, hospitality, and innovation.
As these students move forward in their careers, their influence will be felt in the restaurants they lead, the teams they inspire, and the experiences they create for guests — carrying forward the values of exceptional dining that DiRōNA celebrates.
Looking Ahead
The 2025 DiRōNA Scholarship recipients reflect the passion, creativity, and dedication that keep dining vibrant. Each has their own path, but together they represent a shared future — one where excellence in food, service, and hospitality continues to evolve.
As they step into kitchens and dining rooms across North America, their influence will extend beyond the plate. They will bring new ideas, inspire teams, and create experiences that remind us why dining holds such an important place in our lives.
For DiRōNA, supporting these students is part of a lasting commitment: to preserve and enhance the traditions of exceptional dining while encouraging the innovation that ensures it remains timeless.
